CNBC is a Joke

“Hey Jimmy, can you go on CNBC right now?”

What?

A decade ago I was sitting in an empty office waiting for Christmas to save me from the monotony of office life. I was ready to go home to my family. Everyone else had already gone home. That’s when I got a very interesting phone call…

It was my boss asking me to go on live television. CNBC! A big deal for sure. I’d never been on television before, and certainly not as an expert on the stock market.

To say that there was some cognitive dissonance would be a vast understatement. I was a simple editor for a financial publication, and I knew quite well that I had no business opining on the stock market on live television. Millions of people watch that! Surely they had other more qualified people to pontificate on the markets.

They didn’t. So I agreed.

Can I wear my cardigan sweater and rock my unkept beard?

“Sure, whatever you want.”

Ok.

The producer called and told me what I should be talking about: IPOs. Thankfully I was just writing about Airbnb and had some knowledge about the budding IPO market. This research was based mostly on the fact that I had used an Airbnb and found it quite lovely and efficient.

What I didn’t know was that I would be sharing the stage with Gene Urcan of Cappello Group. A heavy hitter for sure. In my nervousness, I talked over him and did what nobody does on CNBC: I asked what they thought about my comments.

Somehow they agreed. I’d call it a win.

But as Groucho Marx once quipped, “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”

In my years of watching CNBC, I was constantly bewildered at how late they were in breaking news. That’s because I was in conversations with my colleagues Nick Hodge and Gerardo Del Real. They would always let me know what was happening in the markets well before they broke on CNBC or Bloomberg.

Nick got me into Gold Scripts long before gold was hitting record highs.

Gerardo was whispering into my ear about uranium stocks before it became fashionable.

Before you turn on the television and get yesterday’s news, I would urge you to check out Bizarro World, with the aforementioned Nick and Gerardo. Each Thursday they give you the straight story well before the CNBC headlines. Real, actionable advice that you can use to build your fortunes. The same advice that I get on a daily basis.

Nick and Gerardo are on phone calls with CEOs well before they appear on TV. You’ll get the inside scoop before the teeming masses.

Sign up right now – just yesterday they revealed several budding companies that they have been in touch with and are recommending to our members.

Don’t wait…

Godspeed,

Jimmy Mengel
